New Rails
Are in the making, started with scrap metal found behind a shed at Chester Bowl
I started this rail today. Polejam- down bar. Probably set it up so you can either slide it like a handrail or launch off the top and slide the down part!
Stay tuned as this rail and others get finished up for the 10-11 ski and snowboard season!

What's under your feet?
Think about your snowboard. OK. Now think about what your snowboard is made of. Got it? Now think about where those materials came from. Do you think carbon fiber is found laying on the ground in the woods? Are your steel edges something that a person can dig up out of the ground and slap on a snowboard as is?
What I am trying to get at is the fact that a lot of energy and resources go into the making of each and every snowboard. These processes take its toll on the environment causing things like climate change/ global warming that in the end means less snow for you to play on. So, when you buy a snowboard think about what went into that board and make the switch to ride snowboards manufactured by companies that are not only environmentally conscious but actually work towards having less of an impact on our planet.
Here is a little clip about Arbor; I rode an Arbor last season and they are amazing and environmentally friendly!
If you want to know more about Arbor stop into Continental Ski and Bike to check out what they have got or check out Arbor (<=click this to check out Arbor) at their website!
Happy belated Earth Day!

Build your own stuff!
So summer is fast approaching and if you skateboard you probably want to get wicked on something really fun; like a ramp. This is an awesome video that provides a step-by-step outline to building a fun ramp.
Here is a really great website (ramplans) that will hopefully give you some more ideas!
Don't just wait around for someone else to build stuff for you ride on; BUILD IT YOURSELF! That's how TJ and I learned the skills that brought all you folks at Chester the rails and boxes you get your shred on!

PUTTING YOUR WORK IN!
I listen to kids talk about going filming, getting shots, putting together a video, getting sponsored and what not and sometimes I wonder if he/she knows how much work happens behind the scene. I am not involved with any filming or anything like that but as with making a good skateboard or snowboard video all great things take a lot of dedication and determination. There are always things to be learned. This video has a really interesting perspective similar to the my thoughts stated above.
Plus it is full of bangers!

KNOW YOUR SAFE STUFF
Orange Oval
The orange oval is a symbol, which identifies freestyle terrain on the hill. Check out the sample signage and vocabulary to make sure you’re up to speed on the basics. Smart Style is a terrain park safety initiative, which you need to understand in order to use terrain parks safely.
Four Main Points Of Smart Style
There are four main messages that are associated with Smart Style:
1.) MAKE A PLAN
Every time you use Freestyle Terrain, make a plan for each feature you want to use.
Your speed, approach and takeoff will directly affect your maneuver and landing.
Every time you use Freestyle Terrain, make a plan for each feature you want to use.

2.) LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP
Before getting into freestyle terrain observe all signage and warnings.
Scope around the jumps first not over them.
Use your first run as a warm up run and to familiarize yourself with the terrain.
Be aware that the features change constantly due to weather, usage, grooming and time of day.
Do not jump blindly and use a spotter when necessary.

3.) EASY STYLE IT
Know your limits and ski/ride within your ability level.
Look for small progression parks or features to begin with and work your way up.
Freestyle skills require maintaining control on the ground and in the air.
Do not attempt any features unless you have sufficient ability and experience to do so safely.
Inverted aerials increase your risk of injury and are not recommended.

4.) RESPECT GETS RESPECT
Respect the terrain and others.
One person on a feature at a time.
Wait your turn and call your start.
Always clear the landing area quickly.
Respect all signs and stay off closed terrain and features.

Freestyle Terrain Warnings & Instructions
- Trail ratings do not apply to terrain features.
- Terrain Features are not related to degree of difficulty.
- Inspect terrain features before use.
- You are the sole judge of your ability to use any terrain feature, work your way up.
- Terrain feature shapes and surface conditions change with weather and use.
- Use spotters when landing area is not visible.
- Do not stop on landing areas.
- Use of features can be dangerous; you assume all risks of injury or death.

Head’s Up: Your Responsibility Code
Skiing can be enjoyed in many ways. At ski areas, you may see people using alpine, snowboard, telemark, cross-country and other specialized ski equipment, such as that used by disabled or other skiers. Regardless of how you decide to enjoy the slopes, always show courtesy to others and be aware that there are elements of risk in skiing that common sense and personal awareness can help reduce. Observe the code listed below and share with other skiers the responsibility for a great skiing experience.
- Always stay in control, and be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.
- People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them.
- You must not stop where you obstruct a trail, or are not visible from above.
- Whenever starting downhill or merging into a trail, look uphill and yield to others.
- Always use devices to help prevent runaway equipment.
- Observe all posted signs and warnings. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
- Prior to using any lift, you must have the knowledge and ability to load, ride and unload safely.
Know the code. It’s your responsibility.
This is a partial list. Be safety conscious.

Skiing And Boarding Can Be Hazardous Sports
Skiing in its various forms (Alpine, Nordic, or Boarding) is an inherently hazardous sport with many dangers that can cause injuries and/or death. You should understand that by using the facilities, you are agreeing to assume all risks of injury, property damage, and/or death. Your purchase of the ticket and its use are an agreement to hold Big Bear Mountain Resorts harmless for your injuries, property damage and/or death that may occur in any way during your use of our facilities. If you do not agree to be bound by the above, please do not purchase a ticket or use the facilities. Please read your lift ticket carefully.
Helmets
You should consider wearing a helmet since in some situations it may prevent or reduce injury. However, helmets can give you a false sense of security so always use your best judgment and ride or ski within your ability level.

WAAAHOOOO!
Hey everyone!
Thank you to Ben, Kai, TJ, Sam, Dillon, Anthony, and everyone else who showed up to volunteer last night!
This upcoming Friday we have got something very special for you all!
We are going to put on a few games of SNOW on the box or rail. (like the basketball game horse except on a snowboard or skis. One person does a trick and everyone playing the game has to mimic that same trick exactly otherwise he/she receives a letter. Once a person spells SNOW they are out of the game).
Here is the catch in order to win a prize you have got to beat Mr. Kai Sandal! So practice your moves this week! Skiers do not fret! There will a few games of POW for you too!
